Beach training has many benefits and has long been a contributing factor in the success of Brazilian soccer players. In a recent trip to Italy, I noticed sand pits on the training grounds of 2 Serie A clubs. The added resistance of running or training in sand is excellent for building strength and endurance. You achieve the benefits of added resistance with out adding additional strain on the joints like you get from weighted training vests. You do not place added strain on your lower back when you bend over and the resistance comes in a way more natural to the body. Although there are many physical benefits to beach training, the mental aspect can not be ignored. Training in an environment that truly is paradise. Knowing when your done, a cool dip in a crystal clear ocean is only a few steps away, is a major boost to moral. This type of training is my favorite preseason work out and one of the reasons our teams dominate the early season.
